Garbage – 1st was DOA, 2nd is overheating

This unit has been pure trash. The first unit was DOA, no power light, ethernet light, etc. Pushing power button did nothing. Thankfully replaced the unit without issue. 2nd unit has been sitting almost entirely idle for 2 months in my very cool basement not near any other equipment so it has great airflow. 3 weeks ago it started shutting down and upon reboot throwing an over-temperature condition as the reason for the shutdown. This unit sits idle 99% of the time, it runs my Plex server and has very little use and never any CPU load over 10%. Now I have to pay to ship it back to Intel under warranty.

Compact powerhouse

The Intel NUC with 11th gen intel core i5 is a tiny lilttle workhorse. Added 16GB DDR4 RAM and 500 GB SSD. Installing windows was a breeze and having set it up with office and chrome browse it has handled anything i’ve thrown it’s way. Opening more than 20 tabs in chrome, playing 4k videos and editing office documents. For people who need a compact desktop PC to edit documents, surf the internet and watch movies… this is a perfect lilltle companion!

I know that there are many questions about Windows 11 and I forgot to mention that I am running Windows 11 Pro for 2 days now with a lot of applications loaded and it runs perfectly on NUC11 with encryption enabled.

Looking for a small form factor computer then this is it. So simple to build it your way. Myself, I added 16gb of Crucial memory, a Samsung PCIE M.2 256gb for the system SSD, and a slide in Samsung 1tb SSD for all my data carried over from an older system. It takes less that 30 minutes to install the above hardware. This is an extremely well made device, easy to work on, high quality all the way. This version, with the i5 will handle just about everyday application you can throw at it. My only advice is don’t drop or lose the little screw that holds down the M.2 card. If you don’t want to mess with the M.2 you can just slide in a SATA based SSD without any tools at all.

I purchased the barebones kit, added a 32GB Kit (16GBx2) DDR4 3200MHz CL22 Dual Rank Memory and a 1TB M.2 NVMe Interface SSD. Working well so far!

This is a sweet and sleek piece of hardware. I upgraded from Nuc8 i5 because it struggled to play 10-bit 4:2:2 videos from my FS7. This one (i7) handles it no problem. Very satfisfied.

Installed Samsung 1TB 970 EVO Plus NVMe, Crucial 16GB Laptop DDR4 3200 MHz SODIMM, and Fedora Linux onto my new NUC11. Works great.
